Online Newspaper Readership Increases (.pdf)

beSpacific mentions the Nielsen/NetRatings studying showing online newspaper readership increased 11% (.pdf) in the last year, despite news organizations’ efforts to block readers by forcing them to reveal things like their annual incomes when they register for access to their sites. (I’m attempting humor with that last part. I know news organizations aren’t really trying to discourage readers by asking them to register.)

I wonder if the perception that traditional news organizations are dying is a perception similar to the shortage of librarians. Is there a truth to the varying perspectives and does anyone know what that truth is?

I’m also curious about how online news readership maps to weblogs. I certainly read more news sources online because I blog and read blogs. Do others?
