Harvard Librarians’ Assembly: Back to Class: What are librarians learning and is it what they need?
I’m in the Harvard University Library’s Librarians’ Assembly Fall Meeting. The topic is one we’ve been discussing on and off: “What are librarians learning and is it what they need?”
Although notices have been going out about the meeting for a while, I forgot what the topic is. Today, I finished reading some of the articles in the October 2005 American Libraries that deal with the education of librarians. Rather timely. The articles are well worth the read. I particularly recommend "Why Your MLS and LTA Matter." Tatiana Weinstein gives some fabulous reasons why having a library degree is important and also why library workers without library degrees are valuable. (The online articles are restricted to American Library Association members.)
This issue of American Libraries is also the one with an update on libraries near the Gulf Coast. It’s heartbreaking.
I’m not going to blog the entire meeting and I’m not going to do live blogging. I’ll post a synopsis later.
