Former Wikipedian Creates New Venture to Compete with It
Larry Sanger, who worked on Nupedia with Jimmy Wales and was present at the creation of Wikipedia*, is starting a new project to compete with the wiki-based encyclopedia. Sanger is addressing some of the concerns about quality and accountability by hiring experts to be responsible for certain areas of Digital Universe.
*Larry’s identification as a "co-founder" of Wikipedia is controversial. He claims a wiki-based encyclopedia was his idea. Jimmy says the idea came from someone else. Larry was definitely present in Wikipedia’s early days. The Talk page of the Wikipedia entry for him explains the controversy and some of the short comings he sees in Wikipedia.
