Dan Gillmor at Tuesday’s Berkman Luncheon Series

New Berkman Fellow Dan Gillmor, author of the book We the Media and a former columnist for the San Jose Mercury News, is the guest at Tuesday’s (1/17) Berkman Center luncheon series. To attend, RSVP to  rsvp at cyber.law.harvard.edu before noon on Friday (1/13). To participate remotely, tune in to the Webcast at http://harmony.law.harvard.edu/luncheon…. and/or hop on the berkman channel on freenode.net on IRC.

Addenda: Word on the street is that this lunch is full. Please join the Webcast or IRC!

Lunch with Dan Gillmor is about to begin. It’s full, so if you haven’t RSVPed, it won’t be wise to just show up. I won’t be sitting in the room, but I hope I won’t miss too many important details. Today marks Dan’s first official day as a Berkman fellow. He also holds an appointment at UC-Berkeley’s journalism school.

“To my amazement, people still believe everything they read,” Dan says as he explains the importance of teaching people media literacy.

“Not all blogging is journalism … nor should it be,” though there are some bloggers out there doing amazing journalism.

Dan mentioned a project called News Trust that is some kind of reputation system for news media. It lets people know the reputations of media outlets and sources.
