Village Voice on Wikipedia; Wikipedia’s General Counsel at Berkman Tuesday

A coworker pointed me to the Village Voice’s examination of Wikipedia. It includes a nice history of the project, too.

Wikipedia’s general counsel, Brad Patrick, will visit Berkman on Tuesday (1/31) for their luncheon series. To attend, please RSVP to  rsvp at cyber.law.harvard.edu no later than noon on Friday (1/27). It’ll be Webcast  http://harmony.law.harvard.edu/luncheon….), too, with IRC at freenode.net

Addendum 1/31: _sj_ did his fabulous job of transcribing in IRC in #berkmantrans on freenode.net. A few of us are hung out in berkman. I tried to get some Wikipedians and Wikimaniacs to join us.

Brad gave a general background to the project and what his role with the Wikimedia Foundation is.

His elevator pitch about the work of the foundation is:

"The mission of the foundation is to have anyone with an Internet connection have the sum of human knowledge at their fingertips."

Pause.

"And it’s good to start small."

Brad showed us a PowerPoint presentation.

He mentioned Soufron, Wikimedia’s Chief Legal Counsel, Thorsten Feldmann, Alex Roshuk, who works on copyright issues, and Juriwiki, a discussion list for lawyers involved with the foundation. Brad mostly deals with legal issues in the United States. Soufron deals with international legal issues.

I’ll check later to see if the archived webcast and transcript are posted.
