Getting Responses to Comments via E-mail

A few of you have asked me about getting e-mailed responses to comments. In Manila (this blog platform), you have to jump through a few hoops to do it.

  1. If you aren’t already a member of the site, join. Membership has its privileges.

  2. Log in.
  3. Comment.
  4. Go to the discussion group.
  5. Find the comment for which you want notification of responses and click on it.
  6. If you’re logged in, you should see the option to edit your comment, post a response, and, at the bottom of the page, a box you can check to receive notification of responses to the comment. Check the box and click Submit.
  7. Check your e-mail every minute to see if someone has responded. (Uh, I was just kidding about checking your e-mail every minute …)

This process would be much easier if there was a box on the comment screen for the option of notification.

I tried this with a recent comment on another blog, but it didn’t work for me. Maybe your luck will be different.
