On Working at a Distance
I know a few of you readers either work remotely, telecommute at least some of the time, have home offices, etc., etc., whateveryoucallitthesedays, so I thought this post from Scott about managing remote workers and a follow-up conversation are worth reading. (He calls telecommuting workers "virtual workers," but that’s too close to saying someone is virtually as in "not really" working for my taste. Some of us might know people who work with other coworkers who are virtual workers.)
Since traditional librarianship is often bound to a physical location, it’s difficult to imagine any librarian telecommutuing, but more and more of us are doing it, even if it’s only a day or two a week. I really like Scott’s recommendations for a home office. He also explains how a company with remote workers can use blogs, feeds, and wikis to stay in touch.
And, Scott, at least one of these readers is thinking, "Why bother with the bathrobe at all?" ha ha ha
