LII Faces Budget Cuts, Wants User Input

The Librarians’ Index to the Internet, one of my favorite metasites and an important resource for librarians and Web surfers, is facing a 50% budget cut. They have a survey to try to figure out what to do. They’ll be gathering data through Thursday, March 16.

From Question 3:

"LII is facing a 50% budget cut in state funding for our upcoming fiscal year (July, 2006 through June, 2007). This budget cut will greatly reduce the number of websites we can add to LII and feature in “New This Week” every week. The cut will also impact our ability to maintain our existing collection of over 18,000 high-quality websites. We have been seeking funds from other sources, such as grants, foundations, and state libraries, but we are not counting on these to be in place by July 1, 2006, when our new fiscal year begins.

As a result, we would like your opinions about some ideas for addressing this reduction in our budget."

The survey takes just a few minutes.

Amy writes about this budget cut, too.
