Thesis: Newspaper Blogs Build Community, Attract Readers
On Newslib the other day, a terrific news librarian pointed us to this thesis about how blogs on newspaper sites can build community and attract readers. Robin Roger’s work is quite cutting edge. John Robinson discusses it on a News & Record blog and includes some excerpts. Ed Cone also mentions it.
One quote:
"So what does this mean for business? Well, if newspapers can create a sense of community, they can engage readers in civic life, and make the newspaper required reading. If the newspaper continues to wield influence, it may also continue to make money."
I’ve been holding off on posting it because I kept hoping I could snag a few minutes to read it. I’m giving up on that at present. I hope I can come back to it.
