Webcast: Jim Lehrer Speaks during Harvard’s Commencement Activities, 6/8, 2:15 p EST (.rm)

Harvard University’s main speaker during its Commencement activities this year is noted journalist and author Jim Lehrer. He speaks during the Harvard Alumni Association annual meeting on Thursday, June 8. The meeting begins at 2:15 pm EST and lasts until about 4:00 pm EST.

The meeting is usually webcast and archived. There will be a link to it from Harvard’s homepage. The Commencement Web site has more information about this week’s Commencement activities.

The Gazette, the faculty and staff newspaper, announced his appearance back in April, but for some reason, my brain didn’t kick in to post about it here in case anyone wants to listen to his speech. It’s not like he’s one of the most prominent broadcast journalists in America …

This morning, Harvard will bestow on him an honorary Doctor of Laws.

Gwen Ifill, who is on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, opens this year’s Special Libraries Association Annual Conference on Sunday, June 11. Lehrer spoke at the SLA conference in 2000.

Update: The archive of the afternoon exercises (.rm) is available. Jim Lehrer’s portion begins about an hour and five minutes into the file. It’s very much worth a listen.

Addendum 6/10: The text of Lehrer’s speech as he delivered it is available.
