SLA Session Summary: Microfilm Digitization Vendor Roundtable
I only attended about 30 minutes of the microfilm digitization vendor roundtable at the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference on Monday, June 12. Here’s my summary.
If you’re working with a paper that has a long history, don’t forget that papers 100 years ago had different contents than papers today. It’s important to pick a vendor who can handle your older issues and their content.
Prices for digitization are going down. It’s a competitive field. There are also many factors, like searching, indexing level, interface, etc., etc. Return on investment is difficult for costs at $1/page. Publications are finding ROI in surprising ways once they’ve digitized their content: selling historical papers, articles to geneaologists, etc.
