Profile of Washington Post Researchers
The Washington Post has a bit about their news researchers showing how they actively contribute to the entire news organization and not only increase what the organization can do, but the quality, too. One of the anecdotes shows the value of backgrounding everyone interviewed for articles. Another mentions the work of Derek Willis, an admired … is there a word that adequately describes what he does? … data magician, who shared some of what he does at the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference a few weeks ago. (I still need to post my notes of his talk. It’s one session that definitely made a positive impact on me and still has my brain buzzing with ideas.)

I thought you were knitting during my session! Anyway, if you’re searching for a descriptive term, I’ve always requested that my employers refer to me as “Information Lord.” None of them has ever agreed.

I love the title!
I think someone else’s title is Information Goddess, but I can’t remember for certain. She even has that on her business cards.
Just because I’m knitting doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention. Derek, you were so captivating, how could anyone tune out?

The other word that is occasionally used to describe what I do is “goof-off”.

Knowing that makes me want a job like yours even more! = )
