Effort to Protect Young People Blocks Access to Certain Web Sites in Schools and Libraries
One of the Wikimania volunteers sent me the link to this article about an effort in the US House of Representatives to block access to certain Web sites from schools and libraries in an effort to protect children and young adults from potential predators on the Internet. Due to the ability of sexual and other abusers to easily get in touch with young people using certain blog and social networking sites, politicians are trying to figure out how to protect site users. Critics are concerned that the language in the law is too broad and could potentially limit access to a number of sites unnecessarily.
