Wikimania: David Weinberger
I had the distinct honor today of introducing David Weinberger before his plenary talk at, well, Wikimania.
I really enjoy his talks. He started with a really funny set of slides based partly on the presentation style Lawrence Lessig uses and making fun of presenters. He’s talking about knowledge and how we know things. It’s similar to some of his presentations I’ve heard before. He talks a bit about how we store knowledge, like in libraries or in cabinets of insect speciments in a museum. He mentions various organizational systems for knowledge.
One of the slides the audience really liked is one of a prominent newspaper front page showing some of the warnings Wikipedia shows cautioning people about an article’s neutrality.
He mentioned reddit and how we’re reading the news socially.
I like David’s presentation style. He’s energetic and he uses engaging slides. One of the tactics he uses is incorporating lots of images into his slides. Many of his slides are just pictures. Maybe I should work on making my presentations less wordy …

Awesome. Is there any video available from the talks?

Hello Chris,
Some videos of the conference sessions are available: http://wikimania2006.wikimedia.org/wiki/Archives. I added the link to the front page of the Wikimania site to make it easier to find.

Thanks, J, for the bloggawikiwiking… which both makes me think of a song…

and inspired a sudden insight into the professional roles of journalists and librarians, which I may fine-tune a litle…
