Wikimania: Lawrence Lessig

I realized I never wrote about Lawrence Lessig’s talk at Wikimania and now I realized I lost my notes from the talk.

I really enjoy Lessig’s presentation style. For most of his talk, I was sitting there admiring his style and dreading that I had to present in the time slot following his talk. For the part of the talk I wasn’t worrying about that, I was kvetching with some of the people on IRC about the incredibly rude camera crew shooting footage for a news program. They tromped through the audience without regard to whom or what they were blocking (”Hey! Who’s the bloke blocking the video webcast?”); and, at one point, they stood directly in front of Lessig for a few minutes, blocking the view of everyone in the audience. Sure, it’s nice to get media coverage, but some of us are going to think twice now before approaching television news to cover something. Some very brilliant person finally turned the lights off in the room. We could see Lessig and his presentation ok, but there wasn’t enough light for the crew to film, so they left.

Maybe I should try to find my notes so you’ll have a report that’s better than some comments on the behavior of camera crews.
