In Praise of the Typewriter

Yeah, ok, this post is slightly off-topic for this blog, but when I saw this article about typewriters, I couldn’t stifle the desire to post it.

When I first learned how to type, I favored typewriters over computers, although I had been using computers longer. There’s something nice and productive feeling about pressing a key and seeing something on paper instead of having to go through a complex routine to print something. And for certain things, typewriters just seem so much easier to me. I would still prefer to do file labels using a typewriter than fudging with a printer for hours and have it print incorrectly. So many times, I’d rather stick a blank form into a typewriter to complete it than wrestle with it in word processing software. My Grandmother continues to send me typed letters. I still want a typewriter like Jessica Fletcher used in the credits of Murder, She Wrote.

Anyway, I figured some of you out there interested in machines, words, fonts, etc., would tolerate an article about typewriters.
