One Way to Fix Bad Apostrophes: Firefox’ Web Developers Toolbar
Last December, I wrote a bit about problems I was having with stray apostrophes in the HTML code eating blog posts. Two of the geeks who will be guest blogging here in my absence broached ideas about how to fix the problem and one of them actually did (Thanks, Kim!). He then promptly introduced me to the Web Developer toolbar, a Firefox add-on, and showed me how I can fix the problem in the future. With the toolbar, I can get a split window with editable HTML code on one side and a preview of the page on the other. When I replace the apostrophe with a quote, Firefox displays the fixed page. Because of the way forms work in HTML and Manila, I can click Post Changes and fix the problem on the server. Easy! Now I don’t have to fear that typo any longer and I can release the faulty post.
