Iran Bans Fast Internet Connections

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Internet access in other countries in this space. Some folks in blog group are talking about Iran’s decision to ban high-speed Internet access and what that means for the government and the citizens. What does a decision like that have to do with libraries? Well, think about how much we rely on high-speed connections for various tasks. Think about how difficult it would be to keep in touch with people, do research, access library resources, read the news, or just use a search engine in an Internet cafe where multiple machines are using the same modem connection. (No, not everywhere in Iran is like that, but that’s a common scenario according to a blog group participant.)
