Web Site Monitoring
I had another moment of brilliance recently regarding this weblog. I’d been trying to figure out how to get new comment notification now that e-mail has been disabled on the server. The scratchpad used to e-mail me comments. Now, it can’t.
I had been thinking about something more technically sophisticated than I am, possibly involving a script, but I realized I should be able to use a Web page monitoring tool to watch just the discussion group. Now to find an appropriate (and hopefully kostenlos, er, free as in “pay no money for”) tool.
I went to the ResourcheShelf dreaming of a list Gary Price might have of the tools he uses regularly, but couldn’t find something that specific. I almost completely distracted myself, too, by reading some of the blog posts. There’s some cool stuff there now. Go check it out.
Anyway …
I dug up my notes from his appearance at Simmons College last March and saw that he uses Trackle and WebSite Watcher. Both offer free trials, but both cost money. WebSite Watcher won’t work for me because only PC versions are available. (And y’all know I’m not very PC. ha ha ha)
