The Tribune Co. & the State of Newspapers

I caught a segment on National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition Saturday about the Tribune Company and the state of newspapers that’s worth a listen. Audio should be available after 1 pm EST. The Tribune Company owns a number of major newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times.

Quite a few of my close news library colleagues work for newspapers the Tribune owns. I’ve been living under such a rock lately, I’ve managed to completely miss the news about the company being in turmoil and up for sale. The NPR page links to more coverage of what’s happening.

After covering the latest news about the Tribune’s situation, there’s a discussion about what’s been happening in the newspaper industry in the last few years and its implications.     Hello, I don’t believe the Tribune Co. owns the New York Times Co., but is a competitor of theirs. New York Times Co. does own the Boston Globe and Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Thanks. Bill
