Stipend for the SLA Annual Conference for LIS Students Interested in News Librarianship

I’ve claimed before that fame and fortune can belong to an aspiring news librarian currently studying or recently graduated from a program in library and information science simply by applying for the Vormelker-Thomas Student Award sponsored by the Special Libraries Association News Division and ProQuest. The stipend offers about $1500 to a first-time Special Libraries Association Annual Conference attendee.

If you think applying for such awards is a waste of time, let me assure you it is not. I ran the committee for a few years and can tell you we didn’t receive that many applications. I’ve heard from other people offering similar awards that not too many people apply for them. Of course, the problem is that there is only one stipend to give out and many highly qualified people apply. It’s worth a shot.

PS–The deadline is March 23, 2007.
