Things I should have done before the import

  1. Had I realized I wouldn’t be able to log into the Manila version of j’s scratchpad, I would have done a lot of tweaking there beforehand, like posting notes in several places about how that blog is now an archive and the real blog is elsewhere.
  2. I should have done a backup with Wget and downloaded a Manila backup, but I completely let those two important tasks slip my mind.
  3. I wanted to be able to go through all of my blog’s trackbacks and add the ones worth keeping to posts manually to preserve them. Not importing trackbacks is good because most of them ones on the old scratchpad were trackback spam. However, I did lose quite a few important links, including internal blog links connecting related posts. Time was a huge factor there, since I suddenly needed to move my weblog before February 12.
  4. Turn off comments and trackbacks on the Manila version.
