Dr. on Trial for Malpractice Blogs Case, Blows It, Settles

The Bost Globe carries a front page article about a doctor who is outed as a blogger using a pseudonym during his malpractice trial and has to settle out of court. A pediatrician being sued because of the death of a child wrote several times over the last year about the suit, preparing for the trial, and the trial itself. After the prosecuting attorney questioned him about the now-deleted weblog, he settled.

"The case is a startling illustration of how blogging, already implicated in destroying friendships and ruining job prospects, could interfere in other important arenas. Lawyers in Massachusetts and elsewhere, some of whom downloaded [the doctor’s] observations and posted them on their websites, said the case has also prompted them to warn clients that blogs can come back to haunt them."
