I miss having a whiteboard.

Once upon a time, I had an office with a whiteboard. I did a very good job of keeping it full and tended it regularly. It might be one of the things I miss the most about that job. As we’re evaluating knowledge sharing tools for a project, I keep thinking about how simple and wonderfully functional such a tool is. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone standing in front of a whiteboard just staring at it because s/he had no idea what to do with the technology.

My work computer’s desktop is full of sticky notes–much of whose information I might have put on the whiteboard. Wikis, often thought of as eletronic white boards, are nice and everything, but I like the visual nature, speed, and ease of working with a physical whiteboard. I’m a visual person. I like having everything within sight. Since a whiteboard is unlikely for this project, I’m hoping for something like a wiki.

I prefer chalk. My whiteboard at home has a misguided idea from a year ago frozen in the middle of it.

    That sounds sad. = (
