The Washington Post’s Obituary Blog: Post Mortem

One of the (dis)advantages to working on a cool Web site like Babbledog is that I’m always finding cool things to read and note. Here’s another one.

The Washington Post obituary writers have a blog called Post Mortem where they share stories about the folks who died.

“Obituaries have become an increasingly popular feature in the newspaper and online, as well as on Internet discussion groups, in books and magazines and even films. Moreover, they provide insights into culture, politics, science, the arts, business and people’s peculiar pursuits. For those of us who write them, obituaries are never morbid because they focus on the endlessly fascinating ways people choose to live their lives.”

How many times have we found about about someone’s fascinating life because we read about their death?

A friend of mine who worked on the paid obituaries for a city newspaper said she found the job incredibly boring. Had they a blog, I wonder if she would have found her work much more interesting.
