Haiku about Blogging

It has been a very long time since I’ve posted poetry on the scratchpad. Here are some haiku BO and I composed while exchanging emails about personal blogging. I had a flash of inspiration while laying down for a nap that led to my longer responses in haiku. BO’s three are labeled BO:. Mine follow j:. All are posted with permission. Enjoy! (And let us know if these start circulating widely. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to fit ’special librarianship’ into a haiku? :) )

Your blog proves to me
the value of blogging my
own personal life.

BO:
How much did she read?
My new internet stalker,
at least she is cute.

You say that like you
have had stalkers who are not
as cute as I am.

But wait! I am not
a stalker. I am merely
conducting research.

I read your complete
blog, finishing it last night.
It was nice and short.

We’ve lived parallel
lives despite being mostly
coastal opposites.

Our similar tastes
surprise me: movies, protests,
foods, philosophy.

BO:
I share of myself.
If we all did we might find
more understanding.

Thank you for blogging.
I enjoyed reading your words,
talented writer.

Advantage have I
because of your openness.
I am secretive.

Where should I begin
to tell you about my life?
My blog tells you nichts.

Your OK Cupid
questions are a good starting
point. Let’s talk, but when?

What would you like to
know about me besides all?
Ask me some questions.

BO:
If she writes her life
will it be deep matters or
what she ate for lunch?

Were I to blog my
life, you would find stories of
hikes, food, and dancing.

I am a private
person. I don’t like to share
my life publicly.

I have too many
secrets I don’t want to be
common, wide knowledge.

Telling you is one
thing. Blogging for the world is
what I do not want.

The risk of losing
prospective jobs or friends is
too high for my tastes.

I love my Mother.
Why would I want to make her
angry by blogging?

Who cares about my
private life anyway? Most
readers don’t want it.

Professional eyes
want professional news, not
cat stories, gossip.

Most only care for
special librarianship.
They don’t know bloggers.

Why interrupt their
professional reading with news
about my cats?
I don’t want my life
archived on the Internet.
That’s much too open.

The Internet is
forever, so putting things
there seems bad to me.

Especially things
I want private, I don’t want
on the Internet.
