Tribune Company Files for Bankruptcy Protection

The Tribune Company, owner of the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and other television stations and news organizations, as well as the Chicago Cubs (who will eventually win the World Series) filed for bankruptcy protection today. This filing probably won’t be the only one for a news organization during this downturn. Subscriptions and advertising revenue are down and will continue to decrease.

The Chicago Tribune, of course, has coverage. I read an article about the prospective action in the print edition of The Boston Globe earlier today.

What’s next for the news industry? How many more organizations will follow? What is the future of news?

[...] j’s scratchpad I saw St. Nicholas on St. Nicholas’ Day. That was awesome. He was walking near a city center and waving at traffic. Of course, I waved back. I couldn’t help grinning. It was great!
