Death Threats at Work

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

I’ll admit these are rather odd questions.
Do any of you get death or other kinds of threats at work? If so, how do you deal with them?
If you don’t feel comfortable answering online, feel free to tell me via e-mail. This is mostly for my own curiosity.
(Don’t worry, Mom, I’m fine. Love you!)

Effect of Digital Cameras on Archiving

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

On Newslib, someone pointed out that the Winter 2006 (vol. 27, no. 1) Newspaper Research Journal includes an article by Howard Bossen, Lucinda D. Davenport and Quint Randle about the “… impact of digital cameras on photo procedures and archiving.”
I haven’t been able to find the article online yet.

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

An invaluable gift: The Anschutz Corporation is donating more than 5 million items from the San Francisco Examiner’s archives to the Bancroft Library at the University of California-Berkeley. Already holding many items related to California’s history, the library’s collection will now have some excellent primary source materials from the newspaper.

The Downsizing of News Libraries

Sunday, November 20th, 2005

This past week, rising above the daily melody was a serious tone about the downsizing of yet another news library, that of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News. Reports on the discussion list indicate ten years ago, fifteen people provided news library services to [...]

Conserving Energy

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

I’ve been doing a lot of indexing and abstracting the last few weeks at work. It’s a task that requires lots of concentration on my part. Usually, my day is such that I do a variety of activities. Because of the amount of indexing I’ve needed to do, I’ve pretty much just been working on [...]

A Cool Idea for a Web Site Relaunch

MassINC, the Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth, will give tours of its redesigned Web site from the Massachusetts State House on Wednesday, October 26. They want to bring their new site to the people who use it or could benefit from it the most by taking it on the road. They’re even providing coffee [...]

Lunch with LIS Students

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

My lunch with the library and information science students was cool. One considering business librarianship and another pondering law librarianship or records management or something joined me. We talked about library school stuff, the job market, how to get a job, and those kinds of things. None of us actually ate lunch. We hoped more [...]

I’ve read in several places that LexisNexis expanded their free offerings regarding coverage of Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath and reconstruction. The site includes 4,000 sources.
