SLA: Al Gore, Opening Keynote
Environmental crusader and former United States vice president Al Gore gave the opening keynote speech at the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference. As you might expect, I took notes. He seems to really support libraries and believes in the importance of our roles in the future economy.
I wonder if, like Gwen Ifill last year, he’ll be on Wait, Wait–Don’t Tell Me! in a few weeks recanting his speech to librarians …
Gore did bring up some tough political issues, like the war in Iraq, which surprised me a bit. Many speakers at past SLA conferences have kept their speeches relatively politically neutral. Many of you know I try to remain neutral on this weblog. I chose not to tone down or omit his statements or the audience’s reactions in my notes.
