I wish I could remember what my development environment was. But I wrote this post back in 2007 and haven't done much with anything GIS since.

Thanks for this post. By the way...

I'm using Geotools (tried several versions) to connect to an Oracle 11.1.0 schema via GeoServer WFS. When using GeoServer 2.1.2 it works fine until you perform a commit (or an auto-commit). At that point GeoServer sticks on some problem causing the client connection to timeout. Once you shutdown the server the commit is executed (but it's too late...).

My workaround was to move to version 2.1.0 of GeoServer.

Hurrah. I especially like your explicit asking why poor kids don't deserve adequate education and public safety. I'll update my letter accordingly.

Keep up the civically-minded letters. And thanks for writing to Brown and thanks for commenting.

I borrowed from your letter a bit:

Dear Senator Brown,

I am deeply troubled by your recent vote against S.1723: Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act of 2011. Please explain why you chose to cut jobs that serve obvious public good (from the public safety and education workers who are already manning the most needed yet consistently undervalued jobs) and keep families and children safe. Teachers, police, and firefighters from the poorest communities will lose their jobs first because the poorest communities are those least able to support their salaries.

Your vote is clearly not in the best interests of our state or our nation. I'm surprised that you would make such a move in an election year, but I thank you for making your opponents' jobs that much easier by showing your true colors so plainly.

So I ask you, Senator Brown, what do you have against families and children? Why do you think they don't deserve adequate education and public safety? You owe your constituents an answer, and you owe the children of America an explanation.

    Sincerely,
    mk Eagle
    Not voting for you

I understand your frustration. I'm a teacher and my students are always kidding me about how I'm always pulling up my pants. They suggested I ought to try suspenders, but when I went to look on the internet, I discovered that different types do exist. I just happened to catch your blog when I googled "types of suspenders"!

I don't think about her or her death often. Sometimes she'll show up in my dreams. The dreams are never peaceful and I always wake up restless afterward.

I didn't even realize you posted things like Mom's last days with us. I can still remember that experience, the phone call to somewhat of the trip up to Canada. It's hard to believe in July it will be 5 years, doesn't even seem it but then again I can. I miss hearing her voice, only pictures do I have of her. How do you feel with Mom no longer having her spirit on earth with us? I'm interested on your feelings.

I really like the quality of the camera Josh, also like the picture itself because strawberries are one of my favorite fruits. It's funny to think me and one of my best friends Andrea will be soon enough. We'll going around the suburbs of our area and who knows we may go inner city though I'll let you know possibly we could meet up and do some exploring together? What do you think?
