New Wild Beasts track – “Albatross”

Heard about this through a music blog that I just discovered, actually (called “Pretty Much Amazing”).
Here’s a link to a Youtube stream: Albatross

It will be on the Wild Beasts’ new album, which is due to drop on May 9th.

While their first album, “Limbo, Panto” (2008) is pretty eccentric, and didn’t exactly put them on the map, it was still received well by critics. I’m surprised, because while I like it overall, some parts of it are downright comical.

Their next, “Two Dancers” was spectacular, though. They didn’t lose that theatrical touch, but I felt that “Two Dancers” carried more weight. For example, “We’ve still got the taste dancing on our tongues” makes my heart want to explode every time the chorus surges in with that brilliant guitar riff in the background. And let’s not forget the vocal acrobatics on such tracks as “All the King’s Men” and “The Fun Powder Plot.” If you’re one for lyrics, then you will either venerate or loathe Wild Beasts; their music reminds me that there is no shortage of original phrases (hmm: I can’t say neologisms for phrases, can I? Although I think WB may come up with those as well) in the English language. It’s definitely the most original music I’d heard in a long time, and my favorite album/discovery of ’09. That reality, combined with the fact that Wild Beasts were INCREDIBLE in concert (saw them in February 2010 at Bowery Ballroom – FLAWLESS singing, BOUNDLESS energy), makes me antsy in anticipation of the new record. Enjoy the preview!
