I agree with you LoriHC that most people are in between... The geek stereotype doesn't apply to many men I know either. But there definitely seems to be a correlation between attractiveness and how intelligent you are perceived to be. And as a girl geek, any attempt you make towards being attractive (wearing lipstick or a fashionable haircut for example) somehow lowers your IQ in the workplace. What's up with that? Is it really impossible to enjoy both elegant sql queries and Prada?

Awesome post! Loved the last line especially. :-)

Just a thought, but why is there no in between? Why are all women either bombshells or awkward, sexless geeks? Most of the women I know are somewhere in between. Brainy, interesting, striking. Personally, I'd like to leave sexy out of it.

I'm already re-reading this; I'll also be bookmarking and forwarding to friends.

Thanks for your post, H. I'm not so much pointing out that smart women can be sexy too so much as it would be nice to see women on the council that will inspire young girls to possibly see themselves as technologists.

Hi Li,

Sounds to me like you're onto something here. I must admit that sexy (or @ least attractive) women scientist have only been a staple of 50's horror movies. In the more serious Hollywood movies, female scientist & lawyers & CEO's are usually presented as sexless unless the movie is about a femme fatal (witness THE DEVIL WEARS PRAVDA). The real world just ain't like that.
