Blackwater Guards named in indictment for 2007 shootings
CBS News has just posted a story that names the guards involved in the September 2007 shooting in Nisour Square, Baghdad. Blackwater contractors shot and killed 17 Iraqis at a traffic circle during a State Dept. convoy.
I heard rumors some of the contractors involved would be indicted Monday but CBS has that story. NPR’s coverage is a bit more detailed and has an audio link to All Things Considered which discusses it . A grand jury indicted 5 for manslaughter and assault. Apparently a sixth is negotiating a plea. From one account of the scene, at least one Blackwater guard tried to get the others to stop shooting at one point. If true, wonder whether that guy will be a witness.
This renewed press coverage comes as I’m submitting my Results Chapter. Maybe more information will come out I could use before the final draft is done in March.
