A. Q. Khan is free
GlobalPost (via Reuters) reports that A. Q. Khan, the father of Pakistan’s nuclear program, is now free from house arrest. Wonder if we’ll finally get a chance to interview him? Not that I thought he was terribly handicapped by being subjected to “house arrest” for all these years.
Danger Room/Wired has a good post on this “wonderful news” too
Khan had been confined to his home since 2004, after he confessed on national television to giving away Pakistan’s nuclear secrets to Iran, North Korea and Libya. Last year, however, he recanted his confession, saying he had been unfairly scapegoated.
The Guardian reports that the Pakistani army had been guarding him and stopping “anyone approaching his home”. It went on, “Khan said he did not have concerns for his personal safety”. Yeah, right.
