Dear Mr. Graf, dear friends,
Last week Francesca read to us a portion of the transcript of another judicial interrogation in the matter of the investigation into the death of the child Joseph Abdulla. The witness was a young boy from Sebnitz. The transcript has the Dresden district court file number 270 Gs 3141/00 414 Js 53329/00; the interrogation was carried out on 21 November 2000, at ten o’clock in the morning.
Francesca continued with the reading from where she ended last week:
(Continuation of the witness’ answer): “Joseph couldn’t swim. I heard that later from his family. I didn’t know that when Joseph was thrown in.
“Sandro Richter then jumped on Joseph’s body, when he was in the swimming pool. I saw that myself.”
In answer to the question, as to whether he had really seen that: “I saw it partly, partly. I looked there and then looked away again. Also, other people confirmed that later to me.”
In answer to the question as to why he hadn’t helped Joseph: “Antonio Keleman came to the place where I was lying down, and he said someone was lying in the water. I thought right away that it was Joseph, and then I’m with Antonio Keleman on the edge of the pool and I saw Joseph farther down there, lying face down in the water, at the bottom of the pool. Then I jumped into the water with Antonio. Antonio Keleman and I pulled him out. Then we went a little father away, and the swimming pool attendant came; she was a fat lady, about thirty years old. Beforer, she was in the center (i.e., control room) where they operate everything.
“Then Mr. Goldschmidt arrived on his bicycle. He’s also a swimming pool attendant. He put his bicycle by the machine room. Then the ambulance came and Diana, Joseph’s sister.
“Then we all went.”
In response to a follow-up question about whether Sandro Richter and Maik Hauke had jumped around on top of Joseph: “I don’t exactly know any more.”
In response to a question as to why he had made such detailed statements to Joseph’s mother: “Well, no.”
In response to a follow-up question: “Oh, at our place then. Yes, that’s right.
“Frau Dr. Kantelberg, Joseph’s mother, is our landlady. I’ve been living there for about two years. She began with that then. First it was quiet for a long time, then suddenly she came to our place. Then I was supposed to tell what I saw.”
In response to the question as to why he doesn’t want to make any statements before the court or to the police: “It’s because of the right-wing scene.”
