Dear Mr. Graf, dear friends,
Last week Helmut said, “If all the allegations that Herr Reichel raised on behalf of Annerose and Daniel Steiner against the Kantelberg-Abdullas are true, then why couldn’t Frau Steiner and Daniel raise these allegations themselves. Why did they need Herr Reichel to do it?”
Today he added, “I’ve found a two-page sworn statement from Daniel Steiner in the files. Contrary to what Herr Reichel said, Daniel signed both pages of the statement, and his mother, Annerose Steiner, signed the first page, which contains the longest part of the statement.”
No one said anything, and Helmut continued reading the transcript of the interrogation of Juergen Reichel.
QUESTION: Who rents the apartment at Hertigswalder Strasse 22?
ANSWER: We rent the apartment together, Annerose Steiner and I.
QUESTION: How much was the rent at the time you moved into the apartment?
ANSWER: The rent has been DM 809.60 since we moved in.
QUESTION: So during the whole time that you’ve been living there, there’s been no increase or decrease in the rent?
ANSWER: No, nothing of the kind.
QUESTION: Do you have any other tips for the matter at hand?
ANSWER: Yes, I’d also like to say that yesterday the daughter of the Abdulla family, Diana Kantelberg, telephoned us. I answered the phone, and she asked me of she could speak with Daniel Steiner. I asked her why, but I got no answer. I didn’t let her speak to my son. I ended the conversation, and as far as I know Daniel didn’t call the Kantelbergs back. I don’t have anything more to say in this matter, except we want to have some peace, finally, in Sebnitz.
“In other words,” said Helmut, “Herr Reichel means, ‘we just want to hush the whole thing up’.”
Continued next week.
Sincerely yours,
Robert John Bennett
