Suit lust

The blog of Thomas Mahon, a Savile Row tailor, who tells us all about handmade suits.

One of the few material desires (pun acknowledged) that makes me wish I were in a higher-paying career bracket….

Herein lies one of life’s cruel tricks. The myth of the tailored suit. I have 3-4 custom suits and they are extremely well made and are from extremely good fabric (cashmere and cashmere wool blends). I think the least expensive was around 900.00.
I was in SF and not planning on a formal dinner one night and something came up so I ran down to Banana Republic and bought an off the rack on sale for $300.00.
I have had more compliments on that than any of the other suits…..
    Go figure.
On another note tailored shirts are worth every penny.
