Personally, I do not need to use a laptop in school (im on my third year of high school now) but I do however believe that if someone does have a use for it, it should be allowed. I would rather write my notes by hand and be sure that they wont be deleted or messy (especially for math!) Some students are faster typers and get hand cramps, so for those people, I dont understand that if you want to use a laptop, your not allowed by some teachers. The teachers are doing there jobs, if they lose the information or are playing games they should be mature enough to pay the consequences and have to photocopy the notes, or be stupid and just fail the test. But I believe if your in high school, especially third year, you kinda get the choice to study and go to school or do nothing and go nowhere.

I agree with use laptop, I was almost always co-computing with at least two or three other people in every class. The real ubiquity of laptops in the classroom is now an essential tool for me, because PC shows another vision of understanding (speccially in modeling and chart activities) In my own experience, its very convenient of a laptop or its impressive capabilities that was driving student usage.

I've never brought a laptop to class. I don't think they should be allowed unless it's a computer class. Taking notes shorthand is very useful in the fast paced world of business. In the past year (I graduated college 2 or 3 yrs ago,) I had an important job that, although it involved computers, also involved taking notes continuously because of the extreme number of tasks that had to be done. And, distraction comes in many forms. Being forced to read a newspaper isn't a terrible thing by any means.
