Good morning, readers!

Just a little over a month ago, I wrote a post about an upcoming conference celebrating the centenary of the birth of W.V.O. Quine.

I have been given the schedule for the conference, which is now live on the Department of Philosophy Web site.

The conference promises to be a fascinating one, and I hope that many of you will be able to attend.

Titles of the talks should be available by the end of the week, so keeping checking back to the link above.

Good afternoon, readers!  There’s an important conference coming up here in the department, and I wanted to let readers know about it.

This year is the centenary of the birth of one of America’s most famous and influential philosophers and mathematicians, W.V.O. Quine.

To celebrate this centenary, there will be a conference held here at Harvard on 25 & 26 October, “Quine at 100: A Centenary Conference.” The conference will be held in Emerson Hall 210, and it promises to be an exciting event.  (For a map showing the location of Emerson Hall, please click here. For information on getting to Harvard University, please click here.)

The confirmed list of speakers, so far, includes:

  • Daniel Dennett, Tufts University
  • Gary Ebbs, Indiana University
  • Catherine Elgin, Harvard University
  • Dagfinn Føllesdall, Stanford/Oslo
  • Alexander George, Amherst College
  • Peter Hylton, University of Illinois at Chicago
  • Charles Parsons, Harvard University
  • Huw Price, University of Sydney
  • Thomas Ricketts, University of Pittsburgh

For those who may not know much about Quine, the obituary from the Guardian (UK) gives a nice summary of his life and work.

I will post more information about the conference as it becomes available.
