Good morning, readers!

It has been brought to my attention that Harvard now has access to the some of the philosophy texts in Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO). This means that not only do we have access to reference works in philosophy, but also to the full text of currently published, copyrighted books published by Oxford University Press.

When I first checked the site yesterday, I noted that our access includes “the full text of titles published to OSO from the May, 2006 to September, 2008 updates, inclusive.” However, after browsing through the list of available books, we seem to have access to earlier works as well, at least for the time being.

The best way to access OSO is to go the E-Research @ Harvard Libraries Page, http://e-research.lib.harvard.edu. Type in “Oxford Scholarship Online” in the search box and click on “Go.” You’ll retrieve a list of the various OSO collections. Scroll down to the “Oxford Scholarship Online: Philosophy” link, and click on that. You’ll be taken the Philosophy collection home page, where you can search or browse.

This e-resource has been heavily requested, so it’s nice to know that we now have access to it.

Good morning readers!

Just over a year ago, I wrote a post about MindPapers, an online bibliography of approximately 18,000 published papers and online papers in the philosophy of mind maintained by David Chalmers and David Bourget. Chalmers maintains several directories of online philosophy papers on his Web site, with the help of others.

It seems that Chalmers and Bourget have a new philosophy paper directory project in mind, according to a recent post on Chalmers’ blog, Fragments of Consciousness:

Now back to philosophy. Or at least, to philosophical taxonomy. David Bourget and I are finalizing a new project for access to online work in philosophy. To a very rough first approximation it will be like MindPapers generalized to all of philosophy, although there will be many significant differences (it will be less ambitious in some respects, more ambitious in others). More on that when it goes public, hopefully within the next month or so.

Chalmers and Bourget are requesting help with setting up and refining the taxonomy which they will be using to organize the papers. So, if you would like to review the taxonomy and offered suggestions, take a look at Chalmers’ post for instructions on where and how to do so.

A hat-tip to Manuel Vargas, on The Garden of Forking Paths, for this information.

While looking over Bookforum.com, I came across a link to Disputatio, a free online philosophy journal. According to the masthead:

Disputatio aims at publishing first-rate articles and discussion notes on all aspects of analytical philosophy, but especially those dealing with current issues in the philosophies of language, logic, and mind, and also in epistemology and metaphysics, written in English or Portuguese.

The latest issue — Vol. II, no. 23 (November 2007) — is a special issue on normativity and rationality. The list of articles includes:

Introduction (Teresa Marques)

Is Rationality Normative? (John Broome)

Belief and Normativity (Pascal Engel)

Intentionality, Knowledge and Formal Objects (Kevin Mulligan)

Acting Without Reasons (Josep L. Prades)

What is Normativity? (John Skorupski)

Looking at the archives, there is a lot of good stuff in this journal that my readers might want to considering reading. (Much of the older materials are in Portuguese, though they seem to have moved over to a mostly English-language format in recent years.)

Additionally, I’ll add the journal to the blogroll, and a link on the Electronic Resources section of the Links page on the Department of Philosophy Web site.
