I think figures of $2 and upwards aren't uncommon, though the Terms prohibit publicising actual figures. And $1000/year is a fair bit of money for something that's probably just a hobby - at least for most of the world's population. Heck, US$250 is a lot in many places. But in any event, money != influence. I don't see that my book reviews are any more influential now than they were a year ago, just because I'm now making some money from them.
