At TPM Cafe, Anne-Marie Slaughter posts
a note from a former student working in South Africa on AIDS
Prevention. Estimates suggest 23% of the South African military is HIV+
and that 7 of 10 deaths in the military are AIDS-related. This may make

World AIDS Day 2005

Yesterday was World AIDS day and President Bush touted some of the
early results of his $15bn, 5-year plan to combat AIDS in the
developing world, known as PEPFAR (The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief). That plan has put nearly 400,000 HIV+
