I think what they need is to educate good values about leadership and survival issues because they will not really grow if they keep asking help for the rest of their lives unto the next generation. I agree with Paul they should learn to stand on their on feet, giving them always what they need sometimes wouldn't help because you are making that person dependent to you, just give them something to start with, so they will learn and grow as a responsible and a good person.

in response to Marriane i don't think we will see that in this lifetime. I believe that pharm companies would lose out on alot of financial gain by putting out a vaccine.

It is quite scary that there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS and the only way we can fight it is by prevention. How long would it take our scientists to develop a cure or vaccine for this disease?

Abstinence does not work to protect people from HIV and aids. Hopefully efforts to block access to proper sex education will be thwarted and people will learn how to avoid exposure in ways other than simply abstinence. I wish you well.

Hi,

I'm writing to you from the Campaign for Female Education (Camfed), an organization that works to end poverty and AIDS in Africa by educating girls and investing in economic and leadership opportunities for them when they graduate.

On World AIDS Day, December 1st 2009, Camfed will launch a global campaign to raise awareness about the link between poverty, educational exclusion and AIDS by uniting thousands of people around the world through screenings of its documentary, Where the Water Meets the Sky.

Written by Jordan Roberts (March of the Penguins) and narrated by Academy Award(r)-winner, Morgan Freeman, the film tells the inspirational story of a group of women in rural Africa who use the power of film as a way to speak out about their lives. The documentary features Penelope, a young woman who has overcome tremendous adversity in her young life and who shares her story on camera. Penelope has since received the Goldman Sachs-Fortune Global Women Leaders award, which recognizes women who are making great strides in improving their community. She is a magnificent example to every community, in every country, of what an educated young woman of courage can achieve.

On December 1st, 2009 at 7:30 PM EST, we are hosting a panel discussion that will follow the premier of Where the Water Meets the Sky, which is airing on the Sundance channel. We would be thrilled if your blog would participate in this dynamic, interactive conversation. Log on to FORA.tv on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2009 at 7:30 PM EST. Please contact me for more information about the initiative and what you can do to help.

Warm regards,

Janet Shah
