I’ve been getting a great number of comments recently and appreciate everyone’s help in turning this blog into a conversation about SEO and internet marketing.

To that same end, I want to offer anyone with any questions on SEO a chance to ask via the comments box.  I’ll then make my next post my best response to any questions asked that I feel I can fairly answer.  A few SEO topics that I’m particularly well versed in are link building, keyword/market research and traffic monetization options (revenue generation).

Thanks and hope to keep the conversation going!

PS.  On an unrelated note, if any of you are subscribed to this feed via the old text link subscribe button it would be really helpful to me if you could resubscribe via the Feedburner orange subscribe button.  Tracking your feed is one method of measuring a blog’s performance and it would be great if I could get an accurate reader count from a single source.  Appreciated!

Hi SEOCrimson (sorry, can’t seem to find your name),

I re-subscribed so I hope that helps your headcount - happy to help and I’d love to ask a few questions and look forward to learning some more about SEO who knows maybe this will be a series…

We have several real estate blogs and find them a core part of our marketing strategy and have been successful with this approach. Recently I had a blog that I believe was penalized by Google for things that the developer had done without my knowledge (like 3-H1 tags, keyword spam issues, etc.) I fell off page 1 and have worked back in some but there are some concerns about the long term viability with Google hence this is why I find myself having to start over with the blog in my URL (you know that was painful).

I am committed to white hat SEO (always have been) so with that in mind I’m curious what your advice would be for a business blog or website on:

What is the most effective ways to build backlinks? Is there a speed at which you should or should not do them? Like some offer directory submissions for you and they make me nervous like a big “dump” on google - lol

Is there a minimum PR a backlink you’re getting should have for Google to consider it in determining your authority?

How do business blogs like mine find a way to build the highly valued .edu and .gov backlinks? Does it really matter?

Also - I have a blog that’s a PR5 with follow-tags - http://www.sandbarstosunsets.com (feel free to delete this link I am not trying to spam you but thought you might want to take a look at it. Should I consider changing it to no-follow? If so what would the benefit be?

Are directory submissions a good way to build backlinks? I have submitted to some and get a google alert and others don’t seem to show up - do you know why?

Are there directories you recommend? DMOZ is in the waiting stage…others?

Any other SEO and SEM pearls of wisdom appreciated.

P.S. I am going out of town until Tuesday so I’ll check back in then - not being rude or unappreciative.

    Thanks, Cyndee

P.S. In my first career I was a CIS graduate from UF and worked for IBM - happy to leave the heavy tech stuff to others now to keep us up to date on all the latest.

Good questions about backlinks, my questions center on key words.
    1) Can you obtain, and maintain a very high ranking, in a market with very competitive keywords, without a keyword rich blog title?
    2) keyword density- what is the right amount, and what is the easiest way to measure. Also- Google is “intelligent” enough to see similar words, in your keyword strategy, so, do you want your page to have a) a variety of related keywords or b) one- three keywords, repeated many times- or enough time to have a good density, not a spam one?

I too work with multiple blogs, thanks for the forum.

Wow, I thought I had some questions until I read the comments from Cyndee and Terry, and they pretty much covered what I was most curious about. Like both of them, I have a couple of blogs I work on, and would be very interested in your responses to their questions.

Keyword usage, backlinks, and directory submissions are 3 questions I continue to have no matter how much reading I do - I never really seem to se cncrete straightforward answers on those.

Many thanks for opening your post up to questions, and I’ll look forward to your posts addressing these.

Thanks for your questions, everyone. I’ll post my answers soon, it’s been a busy week.

Well my questions have all been nicely covered already. Looking forward to your response. Thank you.

I use wordpress for my blogging platform and present 15 posts on the front page of my blog. Wordpress for some reason has the title of each post on my blog’s home page as a H1. Is this hurting my SEO efforts and if so how do I fix it?
