I’ve not been totally honest with you, my readers. Well, i’ve not necessarily lied. But I have been withholding the truth. You see, I think I’m seeing somebody.
It’s been just over a month. You may recall that my Christmas plans with family on Cape Cod were cut short as a result of a snow storm. So, I ended up spending Christmas evening home alone in Boston. But as evening fell, a guy I had chatted with ever-so-briefly last August contacted me (by email) to wish me a merry Christmas. I responded and within a few minutes we were instant messaging each other. We decided to get together the following day and ended up having a great time (Thai food for lunch, then watched a DVD of a Pedro Almodovar film).
We got together once again the following weekend for similar activities. And for the past month, we’ve gotten together at least twice a week. This past weekend, we ended up spending 48 consecutive hours together. We met up after work on Friday, had dinner (conincidentally, Thai food again), then went to his place, watched a DVD and then went to bed. On Saturday, I’m embarrassed to say that we never left his apartment until AFTER the sun had set on Saturday night. I’d never done that before. It was a such a great lazy day of eating home-made Belgian Waffles, looking at photo albums and talking. Saturday night we visited a friend of mine at a hospital (I’m thinking about you, Regina), before heading to dinner in the North End and returning to my place for more photo albums and DVD’s. Finally, on Sunday, we went shopping in the Back Bay before he went home to prepare for work and I went home to, well, take advantage of my last free weekend before classes start tomorrow.
Anyway, his name is Rich, he’s INCREDIBLY sensual, he’s a year younger than I am, and he’s an organic chemistry professor at a local college (he’s got a Ph.D….I’m seeing a doctor! WOO HOO). We also appear to have a lot in common (well, except for intelligence…seeing as all I have is a Bachelor’s Degree and people in my type of job essentially support the people with his type of job).
I haven’t written about this before for a few reasons: One, I didn’t know where we stood. Two, I didn’t want this to be a rebound thing. Three, I didn’t want to jinx anything. Four, I wasn’t so sure it would be healthy to seriously date so soon after breaking up with Matt (who has known all about this since day one). But after spending 48 consecutive hours together this past weekend and with Rich not getting sick of me, I’m guessing this might mean we’re now officially dating. Plus, my Mom asked last night if I started dating yet and I told her about him. When parents know about it – I guess that makes it official. I suppose Rich and I should discuss this, huh?
So there you go. I have no idea where this will lead, but I’m having loads of fun. This is all new to me. I’ve never really dated before since I was a hermit before meeting Matt 10 years ago. Plus, Matt and I got pretty hot and heavy rather quickly and never really did the dating thing.
Anyway, if I get his permission, maybe I’ll post his picture here in the next few days. Otherwise, you’ll have to believe me that he actually exists. Though, since I’ve been keeping this big secret for the past month, I can understand why you could think I’m lying now.
