The New York Times Company Releases Newsroom Report (in .pdf)

This New York Times Company series of reports analyzes newsroom operations in light of Jayson Blair’s plagiarism and fabrication. Perhaps the most notable change is the addition of an ombudsman. They will also work harder to ensure that every employee gets an annual review. An outline of some of the changes is on page 4.

Thanks for putting in the link to the Siegel report… I have some friends at a conference in Kansas City who may not have seen it yet.

Incidentally, congratuations to Harvard on having an alum named managing editor of The New York Times. And if the news bureau doesn’t know about it before you get this note from me, you owe me a mango lassi.

(I wonder how many Harvard grads have been in that job?) I’m no Times historian, but why do I feel it’s not sexist to assume she’s also the first woman to hold that job? However, it’s also the first time they’ve named dual M.E.s.
