Many organizations representing journalists, librarians, and many others, sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge asking for public input in procedures to safeguard and share information between law enforcement officers, safety officers, researchers, and the government. The Department is drafting guidelines that could remove public information from the public sphere.
