Diebold Uses DMCA to Force Students to Remove Memos

We talked about the Digital Millennium Copyright Act after last week’s blog group. Here’s a copyright infringement case where Diebold, a company that makes voting machines, is using the DMCA to get students who have posted company memos on their Web sites to remove them. Diebold claims that the students are infringing their copyright by posting their memos without authorization. They recently sent three cease-and-desist letters to students at three educational institutions. One institution revoked a student’s network privileges.
