The book Bowling Alone inspired Scott Heiferman, CEO of Meetup.org, to create a system where people can come together. He began his talk by showing slides of different groups using Meetup.org, most of which have had recent meetings via the service.
And then the Webcast signal disappeared …

Many people around the blogosphere report Dan Gillmor, a columnist for the San Jose Mercury News, is leaving his job to start a citizen journalism project.

Quite a few people are blogging or are going to blog the conference. I don’t think there’s open wireless access there today, so it’ll mostly be Harvard-affiliates who have access to the network right now. Here are some selected posts.

Through the Deutschewelle Best of the Blogs 2004 award site, I learned that Cornell University is using a public weblog to discuss redesigning their homepage. It’s a way they’re vetting designs and gathering feedback from the public. It is in the category Best Innovation.

Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan thanked the staff of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society for their work organizing the conference, especially John Palfrey and Wendy Koslow. She called the center one of Harvard Law School’s “crown jewels” and emphasized the importance of the work the center does.

The Berkman Center folks plan to Webcast today’s Votes, Bits, & Bytes sessions in Ames Courtroom and those in Pound Hall 102 on Saturday.
I’m very glad to know that since I can’t be at the conference all day. Perhaps, the audio files might be available after the conference, too.
