Vancouver Law Librarian Blog

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

Someone sent me a link to this blog by Steve Matthews, who does Web development and library and knowledge management for a Vancouver law firm. Some of his more recent posts deal with KM in law firms. I like his vacation policy.
Addenda: Check out what Steve wrote on his blog about me linking to him. [...]

A Comic for Anyone who has to Help Others use Technology

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

I was laughing so hard after reading this one, I’m sure my coworkers wondered what I was doing.
I saw this in my aggregator. It’s the first time in weeks I saw a comic in my aggregator. Yea!

Slight Change in Plans for Tonight’s Wikimedia Talk with Jimmy Wales

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

Beginning at 8 pm, sj will demo his birds project, which is what he showcased at the Boston Cyberarts Festival on Thursday. It’s great.

Lunch at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society
Tuesday, April 26, 2005
Jimmy began by asking how many of the people in the room have edited Wikipedia. Most of the hands in the room went up. “Very good!” he exclaimed. He made a few jokes about sitting in a Wikipedia meetup without using meetup technology.
The [...]

Lunch with Jimmy Wales

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

The Berkman Center for Internet & Society is hosting a special lunch for Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia/Wikimedia this afternoon. I am lucky enough to have gotten an invite. I will probably do some live blogging. Since it’s over lunch, my notes may not be that great because I’ll want to eat, too. sj is here [...]

The Misleading Comment Form

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

Just a word about the comment form because the info it asks for and what it does with it is a bit misleading.

Name
Email
Web site

Manila requires an e-mail address from people to post a comment. It doesn’t have to be a valid e-mail address; the blank just has to be filled in. Why it does this, [...]

No, really, I’m the first j Baumgart in Google.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

I told someone who thinks I’m being a bit elusive that I should be either the first or second hit for “j Baumgart” in Google. I don’t think he believed me. It’s true–at least for the time being.
I’m competing with a nursing scholar and a lawyer.
There’s a bad joke in there somewhere …

My Orkut profile now has a picture.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

*j imagines lots of readers flocking to Orkut to view the picture.
I’ve had a stack of photos for scanning for a while. When I went through them looking for another photo, I paused at one and asked, “Why wouldn’t this work?” I couldn’t come up with a good answer, so there it is. I think [...]

Notes from a Talk by Michael Gorman

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

A few scratchpad readers dropped me some lines about their impression of a talk American Library Association president Michael Gorman gave at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Library and Information Studies. I linked to Amanda Robertson’s comments because she summarizes what people told me about the event. The students, who have strong interests in [...]
